Statement
Using a strong, realistic focus on portraiture and the female form using a direct approach to
painting with glints of emotion and iconography drawn from influences from religion, real life and
old master paintings, I aim to convey an idealized but realistic image portraying my subjects.
My current body of work “Beauty and The Streets” a study on empowerment, takes a n intimate
look at women in various scenarios and emotions. Women in strong and bold poses set in
textured heavy backgrounds, showing that no matter where a woman is placed, the setting can
be transformed. Like all things in nature, everything has an opposite. Black/ white, good/bad,
ugliness/beauty...the streets and it's grotesqueness, women and their beauty, that's one of the
most honest truths of the world.

Bio
Born in November 1985, Luis Tinoco became quickly enamored with drawing and illustration as
a child. As a teenager he focused strongly on anatomy illustration inspired by the works of
Michelangelo and Rodin. He has drawn influence from the renaissance, baroque, romantic and
Victorian era works and draws inspiration from contemporary artists, photography, city streets
and life. His education has varied, from art school classroom to workshops, but mainly self
taught and observational learning, he has managed to evolve and maintain a constant pace of
that of his contemporaries. With a strong concentration on realism he continues to push his
limits to create more dynamic and emotively moving works.
